About Me

Firstly, this isn’t really a blog about me. It’s a blog about the places I’ve been to and the people I’ve met. About Central and South America, about why these countries are so fascinating that as soon as possible I’ve headed straight back.

I spent six months living with the Calle Alvarez family in Cuenca, Ecuador before starting university, and then travelled through Peru, Bolivia, Argentina and Chile with their son, Santi, and his cousin Pachi. Since finishing my English Literature degree, I’ve realised that if I play my cards right I could earn a living continuing to travel, speak foreign languages, write, and learn, by becoming a journalist. So here, inspired by Oliver Balch’s Viva South America!, is my first attempt to write stories about people and places, which I hope will interest and entertain others as much as they do me.

* 'Qué tan lejos' is a 2006 film by Ecuadorian director Tania Hermida about an eventful journey from Quito to Cuenca. The title literally means 'How Much Farther?'.
